| In the fall of 2004, Hans Kortner Ryen, Sverre Lundemo, Dorthea Margrethe M¯gster and Marius Sekse travels to the heart of Siberia. In the deserted village, Mirnoye, they will be staying for four months. Hunting and fishing vil be their main occupation. At the same time the nature will give the adventurers some of the most extreme challenges they've ever experienced. While the cold is slowly sneaking up on them, they will do whatever it takes to get them enough food, handle the challenges of living together under extreme conditions, avoid frostbites and get awsome experices.
The fall will be spent in a cottage in the deserted village, Mirnoye at the banks of Yenisey. In this area it starts to snow already in September. Because of this, they have to start chopping wood, hunt and fish as soon as they get there. They have to build up a storage of food, as early as possible, before the temperature is dropping to extreme limits. At the same time as they have to do this, they'll go on several hikes in the areas around.
Gradually, while their wood- and foodstorage is increasing, they'll try to increase their hiking-intensity. At the same time as this, the temperatures are dropping rapidly. Equipment for extreme temperatures will be absolutely necessary, because they have to be ready for temperatures all the way down to -50? C.

Ralph Tuijn and Erik Gelauff from Holland are going to cycle 3800 kilometres from Ustkut to the Arctic ocean at Tiksi all over the frozen Lena River (Siberia). This is an worldrecord attempt over the ice by a 2 wheeldrive vehicle on own power (Unsupported). During the first 2000 kilometres, they come across villages every 3 days. During the last 1800 kilometres there is a possibility of seeing no villages in 2 weeks. At the same time this is the area where the wind is the hardest and the temperature can drop to -60 degrees. 200 kilometres before the 'finish' they propably meet polarbears. To defend themselves they have a revolver en they set up perimeters with flares around the tent. To complete this expediton they have a special designed Vittorio icebike with double rows spike tyres which can take a lot of materials and food. The other bike is a regular mountainbike with spike tyres.
The expedition will start on 15th december 2003 and must be completed on 20th Februar 2004. |
