The two teams will start on opposite sides of the Antarctic continent. The ski team will begin their 1,850km journey at one of the World's largest glaciers and then, dragging 200lb sledges, pass through the mighty Trans-Antarctic Mountains before reaching the South Pole. Meanwhile, two Land Rovers will drive 700 miles from the other side of the continent and meet the ski team at the South Pole. Once there, the Land Rovers will re-supply the ski team with provisions and specialist kites (similar to kite surfing) and both teams will return along the Land Rovers' original route. The ski team will now be under sail, harnessing the wind and racing alongside the Land Rovers. The expedition hopes to finish in under 55 days; thereby becoming the fastest to ever complete such an epic crossing.

Heading from the west to the east, we choose the opposite direction of Amundsen, but our route will be roughly the same. We will start in Kugluktuk (Coppermine), and will pass Cambridge Bay, Gjoa Haven, Taloyoak and Arctic Bay before we reach the finish in Pond Inlet. Total distance will be approximately 2000-2500 kilometres. We will start in March 2003, and hope to reach the goal in early June.

Fritjof Nansen (Exp.Leader)
The six-man expedition started mid june in 1888. The first obstacle was to row from the ship to the coast. This part was estimated to a couple of hours. They needed 12 days! This was because of strong winds and ice along the coast. They finally managed to reach the coast, about 450 km south of their original destination. The trek across Greenland was long and hard and far away from the original route. The environment and cold weather was rough, but their major trouble was pulling the sledges and melting water. Almost two months later the team finally reached the west coast, looking back on a trek that no man had ever had gone. In addition to a historic first trek across Greenland, the scientist Nansen also meteorological conditions, and other important scientific data.
