Fjordswim
The longest cold water swim in the world

Go to website
Lewis Gordon Pugh (Exp.Leader)
In 26th of July, long distance swimmer, Lewis Gordon Pugh, will attempt to break the record for the longest cold water swim in the world, by swimming 204 km down Sognefjord, in Norway. Sognefjord is the longest and deepest fjord in the world. The water is icy cold at the top of the fjord, as it flows straight off the glaciers in the nearby Jostedalsbreen National Park. Nearer the coast the water warms up with the inflow of sea water from the North Sea. Lewis will start his swim in the village of Skjolden, where the water temperature is expected to be a chilly 10 degrees. The swim will end in the small harbour at Eivindvik. At the finish, it is hoped the water will be about 18 degrees. The swim will be conducted according to the English Channel Swimming Association Rules. Accordingly, Lewis will only wear a swimming costume and a cap. He will not wear a wetsuit.

Marius Sekse (Exp.Leader)
In the fall of 2004, Hans Kortner Ryen, Sverre Lundemo, Dorthea Margrethe M¯gster and Marius Sekse travels to the heart of Siberia. In the deserted village, Mirnoye, they will be staying for four months. Hunting and fishing vil be their main occupation. At the same time the nature will give the adventurers some of the most extreme challenges they've ever experienced. While the cold is slowly sneaking up on them, they will do whatever it takes to get them enough food, handle the challenges of living together under extreme conditions, avoid frostbites and get awsome experices. The fall will be spent in a cottage in the deserted village, Mirnoye at the banks of Yenisey. In this area it starts to snow already in September. Because of this, they have to start chopping wood, hunt and fish as soon as they get there. They have to build up a storage of food, as early as possible, before the temperature is dropping to extreme limits. At the same time as they have to do this, they'll go on several hikes in the areas around. Gradually, while their wood- and foodstorage is increasing, they'll try to increase their hiking-intensity. At the same time as this, the temperatures are dropping rapidly. Equipment for extreme temperatures will be absolutely necessary, because they have to be ready for temperatures all the way down to -50? C.

The ocean has never been flown solo, in an open basket, under a Roziere balloon. Without the protection of an enclosed capsule, David will be exposed to all the hardships of Atlantic weather, including lasting rain, strong winds and often-freezing conditions at higher altitude. Up draughts could hurl the balloon above life-sustaining height and down draughts could send it plummeting into raging and unforgiving seas, with mountain wave crests.
