Svalbard (Spitzbergen)
Svalbard has since the "Svalbard treaty" in 1920 been
a possession of Norway. Svalbard is made up by several islands,
where Spitzbergen is the largest. The largest populations is
Longyearbyen ( 1.200, Norwegian), Barentsburg (950, Russian) and
Pyramiden (650, Russian) and Ny-Ålesund (20 Norwegian).
The expedition The
expedition traveled by snowmobile from Longyearbyen to Ny-Ålesund
and then returned to Longyearbyen. . It is not possible to get
any re-supply outside Longyearbyen, so each snowmobile had a
sled attached, to carry all the equipment and fuel.
