FLORA AND FAUNA
On the expedition I will not have many experiences of the Antarctica wildlife and vegetations. It is quite obvious when 98 % of the continent is covered of ice. Just 400 km will be in coastal area where these exist. Expect to see some birds maybe in the end of the trek in Victoria Land. The vegetation on the Antarctic continent consists mainly of algae, lichen and mosses. There are registered two flowering plants on the continent. But, I will not be in touch with these except from algae “living” in the snow. But there is life, special in the maritime areas. Algae and plankton constitute an important part of the nutritional basis in the marine ecosystem. Squid and 200 spices of fish make it good for the bigger carnivores like:

35 known species of seabirds
17 spices of Penguins
6 different kinds of seals
8 spices of Whale
