Evaluation The
equipment to bring, depends on the type of expedition and your
destination. These two factors will dictate most of your needs. Going on
an unsupported expedition you have to bring everything with you. In most
cases you have to carry all your equipment yourself. This means that the
equipment should be as light as possible, and of good quality. Going on
supported expeditions you have to carry what you need until you re-supply
gets in, and some extra rations if the support is delayed.
Equipment list Start
by putting together a list of all the equipment you think you need. When
this list is complete the really hard work starts. Try to differ between
equipment that is a must and the stuff that is nice to have.
Hard test The
most important issue with equipment is to test it. Be sure to use the
equipment in similar conditions to the environment on the expedition. But
also in tougher conditions than expected. To give up your goal
because of broken equipment is the most bitter way to be unsuccessful. |
